When a wedding-day confrontation reveals secrets they’re both hiding, will Chloe and A.J. ever find their rhythm again

Review:
I haven't read the first book, so I was a little wary on picking up the second, I was hoping that it would not matter if I read it as a stand a lone, and while in some instances I felt a little left out, it was nothing major.

I fell in love with this book and the characters, all of it, from each steamy moment. The buildup was so intense and real I swear that I felt my face burning from the steam and chemistry that was occurring in the pages.. or rather coming from the circuits of my kindle.

I think what made it so likable was that it was not love at first sight. Sure, it might have been lust at first sight but neither of them wanted that. They snipped and fought with each other as they fought the attraction much like I have done in the past when I was trying to deny an attraction.

The characters were so real, I feel like I could live with their personalities forever, I loved that A.J. had a bad attitude as a defense mechanism, that he was mysterious and you could just tell he was hurting inside. I loved that Chloe was being rebellious and renting out her own apartment even though she didn't have to. These were people I felt like I could text on my phone or call up to see how they were doing, to thwap them on the head and tell them to stop being knuckle heads and just love each other already.

This book was an emotional roller coaster, it had me in tears on minute and laughing the next. My poor husband thought I was going insane but every moment of mental exhaustion and torment the author created with this wonderful book was worth it.

This is definitely a must read and a perfect way to start the love month of February.

DARKNESS OF LIGHT is a Mature YA(16+)/New Adult Paranormal Romance.

**Warning: The Darkness Series is not YA, but a NA Series

Review:
Where do I begin with this book... I am actually really disappointed with the amount of cliche's in this book and the labels...

Apparently having two different colored eyes, odd colored hair.. an odd... (My opinion dense) personality makes you a freak.   Let me pause for a second to let you know how much I detest that word. That might have a lot to do with why I was not a fan of the book, to many labels that put my back up against the wall and made me think of high school and how I was labeled as a freak for being different.

I didn't like that Eli was a jerk but Ember loved him basically because he was hot. I understand that physical attraction is important in a relationship but It wasn't the deciding factor for me before I got married, looks only get you so far in life. As the saying goes A Roses beauty fades but it's thorns last forever.

I hated that she stayed and was attracted to Eli who was abusive, it felt to much like the author was saying. " Hey, it's OK to be abused mentally or physically, as long as you are hot. " I know that was not the point, and I know some people actually think that way but it just didn't work for me.

I think this idea shows a lot of promise and the writing was not horrible, this book  was just not for me.

I did however love the cover, I loved the contrasting colors and it was the main reason I picked the book up in the first place.

Review:

I hadn't heard much about this book, I have seen it on shelves from time to time and another book always took precedence over it so it was placed further down on my TBR pile. Finally while at Walmart the other day I decided that I had waited enough and picked it up and devoured the book.  I am kicking myself now for waiting so long to read this amazing book.
I LOVE IT! Seriously, it was so good I recently decided to share how amazing it is by giving it away in a blog hop.

It only took me three days to finish reading it, and that was just because of long work hours and being a mom.  All I could think about as I went about my day to day activities was this book and what was going to happen next. The plot haunted my every step.  I obsessed over it and what would happen next, the book was just that good.

Anyway, the book is about two different classes of people, The Reds  who are the equivalence of Surfs, and the Silvers or royals with powers and silver blood.

That is until our Main character Mare comes along, a red girl with silver powers.

This book reminded me a lot of The Selection Series and X-men combined, two of my favorite categories because they blended so well.

I thoroughly enjoyed the love aspect in this book, it toes the entire time. The best part kept me on my toes the entire time, and the best part is that looking back, knowing what I know now, I can see every bit of foreshadowing and warning that was so expertly woven into the thick of things.

There was a lot that happened in this book there was a lot of action and emotions packed into the first book. And unlike most books in a series I was  not left unfulfilled or feeling rushed. This book is like Thanksgiving, you eat and eat and eat your fill of it, gorging until you are satisfied and stuffed.  And just like I look forward to my desert  I am excited for the next instalment of the series.

Once Upon A Time: Red's Untold Tale by Wendy Toliver

Title: Once Upon A Time: Red's Untold Tale

Author:  Wendy Toliver
Number of Pages:  416

She is plagued by nightmares that she doesn't understand, but the Once Upon a Time fans will recognize them as her wolf side coming out.

Red balances the difficult times with Granny at home and the girls at school with an emerging and satisfying romance with Peter.

Review:
As an avid fan of the television show when I came across this book on my way to get my daughter her  annual grocery shopping book , I knew that it was a must have addition to my shelves. Even the cashier, a fan as well, was surprised and stopped checking my items out so that she could read the synopsis of the book.

The book itself is a work of art, it has such a beautiful smooth feel to it,  It is definitely a plus to having a book in print, that's for sure.

This book reminded me a lot of the movie Red Riding Hood, with the young Amanda Seyfried as the Main character in the movie. The book reminded me so much of this movie that I found myself hunting my movie shelf in order to find it and wound up watching it while I read the book and compared similarities.

The book brings out the strained but loving relationship that Red and Granny have, a relationship I am sure many can relate to.

I was not a fan of the ending of the book. Much like the television show, Red's story just cuts off as if waiting for next weeks episode. Where as it works on the show, it falls short in written format.

Quotes:
"Peter offered his hand for a shake, and when she took it, she rolled it over. "Your fingernails are black."
' His papa's the blacksmith." I said proudly. "Peter gets to be his apprentice someday." I could only dream what it was like to have a father or mother. Or an exciting trade to look forward to learning and taking over once I grew up.

Peter explained politely. "I really do wash my hands ma' am, fact is, most of it's just to stubborn to get off no matter how hard I scrub at it."

Insanity by Cameron Jace

Title: Insanity
Author: Cameron Jace
Number of Pages: 254

Synopsis:
After accidentally killing everyone in her class, Alice Wonder is now a patient in the Radcliffe Lunatic Asylum. No one doubts her insanity. Only a hookah-smoking professor believes otherwise; that he can prove her sanity by decoding Lewis Carroll's paintings, photographs, and find Wonderland's real whereabouts. Professor Caterpillar persuades the asylum that Alice can save lives and catch the wonderland monsters now reincarnated in modern day criminals. In order to do so, Alice leads a double life: an Oxford university student by day, a mad girl in an asylum by night. The line between sanity and insanity thins when she meets Jack Diamond, an arrogant college student who believes that nonsense is an actual science.

Review:
I came across this book as a part of a tour, I couldn't tell you whose blog it was to save my life, I blame mother hood and insanity, pun intended. But I was immediately drawn to the color and the beauty of this cover. It would definitely qualify as cover lust.
My last blog was titled Wonderland Reviews so I thought that it was a fitting book to read as I got everything settled and organized here.

Not only did I fall in love with the cover, but I fell in love with the entire series, I mean how could I not with the insane asylum, where there is an inmate named Carter Pillar, the wording alone was great. I loved discovering the Wonderlanders in disguise as well as the monsters that Lewis Caroll had locked away and wrote about.

In the first book they are on the hunt for the Cheshire who is killing people, seven young girls in particular During the quest to find and stop the wonderland monster we learn the back story about the Cheshire and why he hates humans. When from his point of view I would be just as bitter and angry with humanity. I love that the villain had a back story that tugged at your heart strings and made you sympathize with the villain.

I really loved the writing, there were so many quotes that I loved and high lighted because they just resonated with me, they stuck with me through my day to day life.

I loved finding out what really happened to put Alice in the institution, did she really kill all those kids? Was it wonder land monsters, is it all in Alice's head.

Quotes:

" I can't go back to yesterday, because I was a different person then."

"The only philosophical problem with accepting the existence of Wonderland is that it means our reality could actually be a figment of our imagination."

"It's as if I have written his name on the inner walls of my heart. AS if I am stained with his soul."

"Whatever we shared is buried somewhere in the abyss of my mind. I just don't know how to swim deep enough and return to the surface with it."

"What is life but a big silly book."

"If you've survived parasites and bacteria until the age of nineteen, you can survive sane people."

"You're caring too much about people Alice, " he says" Take it from me: sane is mundane, insanity is the new black."

" I wonder if evolution wasn't from ape to man but from insane to sane."

"One of the privileges of not knowing who you are is that you can pretend to be anyone you like."

"Questions are the lazy man's way to try to learn, when the only way to learn is not to ask."

"You know what the insane people are, Alice?" The pillar says. " They are just sane people who know to much."

Review:
I was so excited to come across this book on NetGalley, as a child I can remember countless times reading these books, watching the movies. Even now I will still watch Goosebumps when it comes on t.v. So it was an easy choice to make, I just kept my fingers crossed that I would be accepted and able to read this ARC, obviously we all know how that turned out.

So, at the start of this book I had a hard time getting into the book. I was actually scared that my hopes were going to be dashed and this would be a book to the add to the did not finish pile. Thankfully I pushed through and boy was I glad I did. Once you get to the ending of the book you will be glad you persevered as well.

This book was a great October Read for me, it raised the goosebumps on my arms and made it so I wanted to sleep with the lights on. I am sure that was the point, to cause nightmares and induce terror, but it is definitely not for a younger generation. I would recommend it for adults and older kids.

Still, It is an awesome read and I Can't wait to catch up on the rest.

Review:
Lets talk about the cover before we do anything else. Three words: I LOVE IT. I love that it feels like a painting, one I would have blown up and framed, title and all. It is so smoothly done, the colors pop and catch your eye just daring you to crack open the book and dive right in.

That being said I enjoyed this book, sure it took some getting use to but once I had my head wrapped around the aspects of the world the author had created, I enjoyed it immensely.

I was immediately intrigued the aspect of a world with no emotion, it was actually one of the main reasons I picked the book out of my TBR pile. Emotion governs so much of what we do and how we do it, I couldn't imagine the difference in people if they had a switch where they could just shut it off. It is not a world I would want to live in.

I will admit that I was not a fan of our MC the entire time, sometimes she just felt entirely to annoying, I was rooting for her but I also wanted her to fail just because she annoyed me at times.

The only thing I really didn't like was how rushed the ending felt. I understand the point was probably set up for a sequel and trying to get me to keep reading but I all but screamed with frustration.

He must convince her to come to New York and allow herself to be thrown into the chaotic and challenging financial world. However, Olivia is more of a challenge than he expected and he has to change his game plan if he is to succeed in salvaging the company he helped to build.

Review:
This book felt really rushed, I felt like I was constantly being pushed from one scene to the next without any time to reflect or get involved. It felt like the author had procrastinated on her deadline and just hurriedly threw some words together, only to resolve everything in a handful of chapters at the end

The author did do a good job painting the scene of her less then pleasant child hood, one that showed in her adult personality. A lot of us forget that our lives are shaped and formed by the interactions and lessons we learn as children and young adults.

If you are looking for a quick read while on the beach or wasting time, then this is the book for you.

Review:
This book is truly one of the better ARC's I had read in a long time, from start to finish I pretty much was glued to these pages, goose bumps took up permanent residence on my arms. The cover alone is gorgeous, the colors are eye catching and just scream " PICK ME UP! READ. ME!" It seriously is a bonus for those who pick and choose based on the cover alone

I loved the main character Aja, who despite having had it pretty rough with life, has  yet to give up. She will stand up for what she thinks is right even if it is not one of the popular opinions.

I loved that this book did not have a romance aspect it focused on. Yes it was there but it was slow and gradual, not some BOOM insta-love chick lit thing. It was a cute romance that happens every day when girls are unsure and avoid the crush and the feelings they arise, all the while wishing for just one more glimpse of him/her.

I love that you can see Aja change and grow in the pages of a book. She might start off wishing for normality but by the end of the book it is awesome to see that she has come to the realization that there really is no such thing as normality, and that is ok. I loved seeing her accept it and accept and love who her mother is.

There was only one thing I was not a fan of, and it is really a small tiny thing that it is hardly worth mentioning. After the big climax of the book, the ending seemed to take a little longer then  necessary, it was as if the author was making sure she had dotted all her I's and crossed all her T's.

It was still a great book, one I would buy and read again once I forgot all about the thrills and tears.

Acne, Asthma and Other Signs You Might be Half Dragon by Rena Rocford (Arc Review)

Title: Acne, Asthma, and Other Signs You Might be Half Dragon
Author: Rena Rocford
Pages:230

(The following ARC was gifted through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)

Synopsis:
Allyson fights acne, not trolls. As an inhaler-carrying member of the asthma society, she just wants to meet the father who turned her mother into a paranoid, move-across-the-nation freak. Now she’s trying to fit in at yet another school, but for the first time in her life, she has a best friend, Beth. When Allyson accidentally spits fire at kidnappers in the mall, she realizes why her father isn’t in the picture: she’s half dragon. Her acne? Emerging scales. Her asthma? The side effects of her dragon’s fire breath. Instead of freaking out, unflappable Beth reveals her own troll heritage and explains how things work with the supernatural creatures hiding within the modern world of smartphones and skyscrapers.

When trolls kidnap a unicorn, Beth gets blamed. Allyson is determined to prove Beth’s innocence and keep her friend off the unicorn chopping block. When they start looking for the kidnappers, they get a call from the last person they expect: Allyson’s father. He tries to warn them off, but he’s been put under a spell by the kidnappers to keep the victims from escaping. Nothing short of death can stop him. Now Allyson must choose between killing the father she’s always dreamed of, or letting her best friend die for a crime she didn’t commit.

Review:

The first thing that comes to mind when I chose this book, aside from the really long but amusing title, was the beautiful cover. It was definitely a cover lust choice that put it at the top of my TBR pile.

The other thing that I loved about this book was the way it subtly slid the message of being body positive. The characters were not gorgeous, they had their own sort of problems that comes with being a teenager. They had the awkward phase, the acne, but the author mentions a smile, and how beautiful it was and how it made her beautiful. It made me fall in love with the book, even when I was struggling though it, because it wasn't about looks. It was about coming to terms with yourself and the body you were given.

Sadly, that was all I liked about the book. And I know that sounds harsh, but I struggled. Perhaps my sights were to high, because with a title like Acne, Asthma and Other Signs You Might be Half Dragon  I feel like it had a lot of places it could have gone.

The writing was so fast paced for me, I felt like characters were just thrown in my face with no emotion or back story. So much happened in chapter one that it left my head spinning. There was no lead in or build up.

I also was no a fan that the Twilight sparkling vampire was brought in. Vampires do not sparkle....and it was hard to believe that Unicorns would be jerks. I get that every genre is gonna have it's douche bags but it was still hard to wrap my head around.

Sex Tape (Movie Review)

Review:
We got this movie courtesy of a free week or so of Starz and while we had been anticipating this comedy, we began to get a little wary of it after finding mainly one star reviews. Thankfully my husband and I are ones that enjoy making up our own minds and forming our own opinions on things, especially movies.

Before I go any further let me warn you that there are graphic scene's and that the content is not suitable for younger viewers. Something, that given the title of the movie you would think would be a given but you never know these days.

Anyway, the movie starts out with a mommy blogger sitting on her couch talking about the time at the beginning of her relationship with her husband and all the erections and sex they had. She talks about how that can disappear under the strains of marriage and children.

The best part of this movie is that it is believable, Jason Segal and Cameron Diaz have such great chemistry that it is extremely believable that they were married. The couple had a quirky sarcastic banter that reminded me a lot of mine with my husband.  Perhaps that was why I enjoyed the movie so much.
I loved that it felt so realistic.

I can easily see someone making a Sex Tape as a way to put some more oomph in a long married relationship, accidentally forgetting it and it getting leaked out.

This is seriously a movie I would add to my own collection and watch over again.

Six by Lissa Jay (Arc Review)

This arc was kindly provided through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis:

FOR READERS AGED 18+ ONLY

A chance encounter with Chloe, aka 'Nina', an erotic dancer at The Fox Hub, leaves Six, VP of Company of Sinners MC, wanting more. The passion that sparks between them is electrifying but their relationship, while hot and insatiable is also dangerous.

If Six lets Chloe into his heart it could cost her life. If he doesn't it could send her into the arms of another man.

Review:

I try to find something positive in every book I review, mainly because I will never be the type of person to just bash someone's work. Something that they have poured all their time into, their hopes and their dreams. It is just not the thing to do. I am the type that wants to build up a writer, even if I hate their book, so that they can be better.

With that being said, I really didn't like this book. It felt like a knock off of the T.V. Show Sons of Anarchy.

The writer did an excellent job at writing erotica however. They were not kidding when the book said 18+ It was surely a book that will cause your face to flush and steam to rush from your ears, if you are looking for nothing but steam this is a book for you. If you are not looking for a storyline, this is the book for you.

What I did like about the book however was the description of the leading guy. He was not some sex god who turned everyone's eye. No Six, was a big hairy biker that most people curled their lip at. His description was one I could see in an every day setting.

The female lead however? That is another matter entirely. She was just so...stupid and helpless. Something I find hard to tolerate in women roles, she landed herself in one scenario after the next. She was always being kidnapped or sexually assaulted, it just felt over done and whiney. I was actually rooting for someone to kill her off so I would not have to deal with her.

I think the writer shows promise, I mean the idea was interesting enough it just felt poorly executed.

Friday's Book Beginning's

Friday's Book Beginning's
Hello ladies and gents and welcome to this Friday's Book Beginning's. A weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader where we go to page 56 in our book and share a teaser and our thoughts/expectations of the book.
So, without further ado:
The book I have started reading just this very day in fact is entitled Deadly Sweet Lies by Erica Cameron
.

"The burn around your wrist."

My left hand automatically moves to cover my right wrist. I don't say anything, but I don't think she expects me to. She sucks her lips in, her eyes darting away for a moment, but all I read in the gesture is regret and pain.

I am not really sure what I expect with this book. I requested it from netgalley, and I randomly chose it out of my TBR pile because it was going to archive soon. I will say that that quote alone has increased my curiosity of the book. And I hope that it will exceed my expectations. Skimming through the book it looked like it was going to be well written and it looked like it would keep me on my toes. Two things that are a must in any good book.

That's all from me this week, Enjoy the weekend!

Come Sit by Me by Thomas Hoobler

Something terrible happened at Hamilton High last year, and those who survived don't want to relive the past. But Paul has just arrived, and gets the same locker that the shooter used. He wants to know what really happened...and you know what curiosity did to the cat.

Review:
I fell in love with this book fast and I am not really sure why. It was just one of those reads that grabs you by hand and takes you on a fast ride.

This was a quick read, probably because I devoured the book. The author wrote with so much personality that it really made me want to know why the boy Cale opened fire on the school. It was very realistic, especially in this day.

I liked the mystery around this story, the clues were picked up right away so that the main character Paul actually seemed real. The sexual scene's were glossed over and brief in such a comical way that it created the perfect breaks between intense moments.

The only part I disliked was reading Cale's diary, I understand why it was written the way it was but it made it a challenge to read and stay connected to the story.
I actually love the ending, I saw parts of it coming but not the actual solution.
